Fire guts restaurants in Jinja Lorry Park leaving property worth
fifteen million shillings destroyed on Monday night
The destructive fire is said to have started at Twelve Monday
night ,and its cause is attributed to the one of restaurant owner who left the
charcoal stove on when boiling Beans.
Among the things that got burnt were fridges, cooking utensils,
pool tables, tents, two nearby parked Rosa Coaster and A Toyota vehicle.
One the eye witness and helper in the campaign to put out
fire in the night, Mr Kaigo Geofrey confirmed the incident saying the fire started
at Twelve and in one of the middle wooden restaurant spreading between the other
two areas on the lane in the Park.
“It started in Namudama’s restaurant spreading to both ends
of the pool wing and the lorry park gate. We tried to put out fire but its force
was severe. We tried to pour water and employ all tactics not until it faded
away” He says
He adds that the incident was terrible as sympathizers were fighting
fire , looters did steal the property
“Once they saw huge fire flames in the air , they came quickly pretending to help instead just raided the kiosks making away with cooking utensils, drinking water glasses among others.
Fatinah,one of the affected felt sorry commenting that she was in her program of expanding her business but now she is left with nothing to do at the moment.

out of this bad situation that am entangle in .”She adds that she got the money from the
SUCCO that is expecting her to refund the money soon
Recently one of the second largest market (Napier) to Jinja Central
Market gutted fire in the mid October last year leaving property worth millions
of money perished in the blaze that its cause not yet established.
