Besigye’s rape case dismissed after 12 years, government to make a public apology

Government has abandoned the rape case against four-time presidential candidate Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye. “Take notice that the Director of Public Prosecutions, appellant in Court of Appeal criminal appeal No.06 of 2006 arising from original High Court criminal session case No. 149/2005, intends not to proceed with the prosecution of this appeal pursuant to Rule 70 (1) of the Judicature (Court of Appeal) directions,”  the withdrawal notice reads in part. On the above grounds, Ayebare Tumwebaze, the presiding assistant registrar, dismissed the the rape appeal although Besigye was not present in court.   Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi, Dr Besigye’s lawyer, said the government will make a public apology to his client. "We will punish you over absenteeism"- Speaker Kadaga warns Betty Nambooze

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has warned Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze that she risks disciplinary action over continued absence from parliament despite the latter being sick.  The warning is contained in a June 7 letter to Ms Nambooze in which the speaker states that “It has come to my notice that in the last session, you absented yourself from nineteen (19) out of the twen ty three (23) meetings of the committee on Public Service and Local Government without permission. A 25 year old Brian Isiko a student has been thrown behind coolers and sentenced to a two years imprisonment for stalking the kabalore woman, Member of Parliament Sylvia Rwabogogo and confessing his “much” desired lover for the legislator. The young youth is said to have been always stalking and hoping   that he would at one point make his desired love for the legislator come true and never stopped asking for intimacy from the Kabalore woman member of parliament. “ I love you so much and want to protect you. 17-Year-Old Girl Rushed To Hospital After Marathon S*x With Boyfriend In Delta

A 17-year-old girl simply identified as Peace was rushed to the hospital after feeling weak following a hot sex romp with her lover in Sapele area of Delta state. It was revealed that the teenage girl started feeling weak and faint after returning from work on Monday evening before she was taken to the hospital for checkup. According to Sapele Oghenek, a Delta based journalist who shared the news in pidgin English, the doctor after running some tests – revealed that excessive sex was the cause of the girl’s weakness before she was treated and discharged. Singer Vanessa Mdee on hunt by authorities for kissing in public, to face legal action

Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee and his RnB boyfriend Juma Jux could be in serious trouble with Tanzanian government for kissing in public. The two kissed on stage after a thrilling performance during the weekend and went on to share the photos on social media. Tanzania’s Communication Regulatory Authority known as (BASATA) is now coming after them for posting ‘provocative photos’ on social media. ‘Now Jux and Vanessa are not supposed to do what they did on social media because even if you are a prostitute you do that in private and not as publicly’. We are going to stop them, said Chief Executive Geoffrey Mngereza who heads the commission The commissioner also warned other artists from posting such photos saying the commission, which was set up to maintain online morality, will hunt them down.

Mc Kat's Lost Car recovered

The celebrated TV star has been in tears after his car was stolen from Salaama Road on Sunday night. The latest is that Mc Kats is now all smiles after he recovered his Toyota Harrier registration number plate UAU 335R  that had been stolen by unknown thugs. The car was recovered by Fred Lukwago, who managed to pass on the information to Mc Kats through his social media accounts. The car was abandoned in someone's compound. Mc Kats is a lucky man because some of the artistes like Maro , who have been in the same situation before have never recovered their vehicles up to now.

Mobile money dealers petition Speaker Kadaga over 1% tax

Mobile money dealers under their umbrella body “Kampala Mobile Money Dealers Association (U) have petitioned the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga against the 1% tax recently levied on mobile money transactions. In their petition, the dealers indicate that government has been taxing mobile money business and companies.  “For a record, government has been taxing withholding tax of 6% from commission of an agent. If an agent got a commission of UGX 1,000,000 government took 60,000 shillings. On record last year, last financial year, 2017/18, government got over UGX 5 billion from agents. 2018/19 financial year, this tax has been increased from 6% to 10%, government is expecting over 15 billion Shillings” the petition reads.Accor ding to the petitioners, if government maintains the existing withholding and excise taxes, mobile money will yield more returns and create more employment opportunities for youths.  They also argue that over 2,000,000 youths both literat...

Howwe has learnt that Hanison scooped four awards which included; collabo of the year with Saida Karoli, Best Breakthrough Artiste, Best Achievement Award and Artist Of the Year. The "Titanic" singer expressed his joy after scooping the awards, "I’m humbled and grateful for these awards. Museveni says social media is a luxury and must be taxed, meanwhile mobile money tax shall be revised

President Museveni has finally spoken out on on the OTT tax levied on social media users. He has stated that social media is a luxury while Mobile Money tax was a miscommunication. This means that the the daily Shs200 on social media is here to stay while the 1% excise duty tax levied on all mobile money transactions will be subject to a review. Here is the president’s full statement. Dear Ugandans, Greetings. I am using social media to share with you the reasons for the social-media tax and the mobile money tax. Our budget for this financial year is Ug.Sh 32 trillion. The taxes collected from within Uganda and the other fees for this financial year will be Ug.sh.17.5 trillion. The balance (the difference) is handled by borrowing from outside the country, Ug.Sh 8.3 trillion, as well as borrowing from within the country, Sh 7 trillion. We the young citizens of Uganda, from various walks of life,  professions, vocations and associations would like to thank the Fourth Estate for honouring our invitation to this joint Press Conference. We have convened this gathering to express our grave discontent and unequivocal anger about the imposition of new taxes on social media and mobile money transactions through an amendment to the Excise Duty Act, starting Saturday, 1st July, 2018. The amendment creates a levy on access to dozens of social media sites and a prohibitive 1% tax on the value of all Mobile Money transactions. We find this exploitative, prohibitive and an affront to the rights of the citizens of this country, hence blatantly unconstitutional.
