IGP appoints new flying squad commander

The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola has appointed a new Flying Squad commander to replace Herbert Muhangi who was shown the exit last month.
In a message dated June 4 to all police directors, Ochola has appointed Senior Superintendent of Police, Peter Kakonge who has been at the Criminal investigations Directorate headquarters in Kibuli as Flying Squad commander.
Ochola last month disbanded the Flying Squad unit before directing the Director Criminal Investigations Directorate AIGP Grace Akullo to recompose the entire unit.
“All Flying Squad personnel are directed to report to CID headquarters for further instructions,” said in part the message by Ochola dated May.
Prior to its disbandment, the police unit mandated with dealing with high profile crimes including armed robberies, kidnaps, vehicle robberies and murders among others was accused of torture , robberies and a number of dirty deals that its operatives were accused of allegedly having involved in .
The Nile Post has however learnt that after making major changes in the unit,the police boss has appointed a new commander for it.
The Monday message by Ochola has also seen Detective Assistant Commissioner of Police Isaac Oketcho appointed as the acting commander in charge of commercial and transnational crimes at the Special Investigations Division in Kireka.
Detective Senior Superintendent of Police Peter Muwonge from CID headquarters has been appointed as the acting CID training officer whereas SSP Hosea Manyindo has been appointed to head the media crimes desk in acting position.
