Mohamed Salah starts on the bench for Egypt’s World Cup opener against Uruguay

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has had to settle for a place on Egypt’s bench for their World Cup opener against Uruguay. The winger has been struggling to prove his fitness after sustaining a shoulder injury in Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Salah was crowned PFA Player of the Year after lighting up the Premier League last season, scoring 44 in all competitions for the Reds following his arrival from Roma.
However, Egypt will be without their main man from the start as Salah was picked to start on the bench.
