University Of Zambia To Train Students In Witchcraft, First Intake Of 20 “Witches” Accepted
A degree program to safeguard Intangible
Zambian heritage has reportedly been developed by the University of Zambia,
following the grant of $340,000 from UNESCO . It was gathered that the first
intake of 20 “Witches” have been accepted into the University, to study
witchcraft.the Zambian Observer reported that the Intangible Heritage
comprises of practices such as Witchcraft, social practices such as expression
through music, Knowledge, skills-as well as the instruments, objects, artifacts
and rituals.
Dr. Charles Ndakala, the Zambia National Commission for UNESCO
Secretary General, who spoke to Hot FM News on the sidelines of a five days’
workshop for the orientation of UNZA Lecturers on Intangible Culture Heritage,
said that despite efforts in safeguarding cultural heritage, there are cases of
destruction of priceless culture heritage in certain countries which threatens
traditions and customs.
Few years ago also, the South African Minister of Higher
Education and Training, Blade Nzimande , has announced plans to have witchcraft
included in the curriculum from 2018, aimed at awarding a Bachelor of Science
(BSc) degree in Witchcraft.
